Sri Lanka’s longest river on a four-day kayaking expedition through remote waterways, forest landscapes, wildlife habitats and peaceful riverside camping locations. Beginning near Manampitiya Bridge, the expedition follows the Mahaweli River towards the eastern coastline, with the journey concluding near Trincomalee. Each day introduces a new section of the river, a different campsite and a fresh outdoor experience. This is more than a kayaking activity. Throughout the journey, participants will experience remote river environments, natural wildlife habitats, quiet riverside campsites and the gradual transition from Sri Lanka’s inland wilderness to the eastern coast. This route is suitable for participants who want to experience a complete multi-day river journey while learning practical kayaking, camping and expedition skills. MEALS AND REFRESHMENTS A full-board wilderness meal plan will be provided throughout the expedition to help participants maintain their energy and hydration. WILDLIFE AND NATURE The Mahaweli River passes through important natural habitats and remote wilderness areas. Depending on the season, route and natural conditions, participants may have opportunities to observe: 🐘 Wild elephants 🐊 Crocodiles 🦅 Eagles 🦆 Water birds 🐦 Forest birds 🌿 Other river and jungle wildlife All wildlife must be observed quietly and from a safe distance under the instructions of the expedition guides. EXPEDITION FINISH At the finishing point, participants will have time to: 🎒 Unload and return the expedition equipment 👕 Change into dry clothing 🍽️ Enjoy the final lunch 📸 Take group photographs 🏁 Attend the expedition closing session The return journey to Colombo will begin after the programme has been completed.
